Wassailing

A Midwinter Blessing (wassailing)

An ancient custom of blessing the crops goes as far back as the ancient Romans. An offering of bread and the pouring of libations on the roots of the apple tree is symbolic of giving back the nourishment the tree has given. The blessing is also calling back the tree from the dead of winter. Let’s hope this keeps the late spring frosts away from the apple blossoms!
