Spring planting plans are always uplifting as light and warmth quicken over dark and cold. The ancient Greeks celebrated this changing in seasons with a ceremony. Everyone was allowed to attend this ceremony, but only one time. One was to fast before drinking a barley and mint beverage. One then proceeded to an underground theater where a drama that included the Demeter and Persephone myth. No one today knows exactly what happened because it was forbidden to talk about it. Many ancient sources state that individuals experienced powerful images of the afterlife and that their view of the world and their place in it changed dramatically. There are many paths to wisdom. No matter the time, culture, or space, the coming of Spring has and will always provide hope and renewal.
